I have a cat, but I really wanted a dog.
I'm just not home enough to be a good dog mommy.
So I rescued Harlee from the SPCA and made her as dog like as possible.
She greets me at the door, can fetch, and (uurrrggghhh...) begs for food.
I've learned to love Harlee and am pretty much they crazy cat lady who thinks their cat is the best.
Except when we are cuddling and the neighbors decide to start surprise 12th of July fireworks shows. Ouch!
Being a rugby player a large percentage of my friends happen to be gay (rugby stereotype, but quite often true). I believe that these fabulous kind, wonderful women and all the other people out there deserve equal rights. I went to the Pride Parade with them today, some would say I was being supportive, or a straight ally, I say I'm hanging out with my friends.
I think the word skinny is overrated.
My goal has never been to be skinny, but rather to be healthy, fit, toned, or athletic.
Choose one of those words - they're all great.
I believe fit comes in all shapes and sizes.
I wear a double digit size, have very curvy hips (which are probably being sucked in a bit a lot by the compression shorts), and a huge rib cage.
Ex-boyfriends have told me I was: big-boned, thick, curvy, and a good eater.
They are exes for a reason - I date idiots.
Not because they said that, all that is true, and I am fine with it, heck even proud of my build, it did allow my to run a marathon.
They were idiots for about every other possible reason. I must attract that.
And my biggest confession... I have never done karaoke or sang in public because I am super embarrassed by my voice, even my own mother told me at a very early age that singing was not the career choice for me. Obviously she was right!
However, I still jam out in the car like a crazy person.
My current hit, Call Me Maybe, and yes I'm 30 and singing a teeney bopper song.
Try to act like it doesn't get stuck in your head too.
Now you know way more about me (Yikes!, Try getting that horrid performance out of your head without having nightmares) than you wanted to. I hope that makes you feel a little more connected to me and to BackatSquareZero.
P.S.- I also snort if I laugh hard (really loudly)!
Let me know.
Great post, Abby, I had been working on a list to do a "20 things you didn't know about me (and probably don't care to) post soon! I love the singing lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I look forward to seeing yours.
DeleteAnd Love is a very strong word for the singing. Ha
THIS HAS ME DYING! A few friends from my Columbia OmniTen trip and I have been making Call Me Maybe videos while driving and texting them to each other across the country :) It's like our way of saying hi and making the other laugh...so this post got me!
ReplyDeleteI cannot help but crank it up and jam out in the car. Love that song!
DeleteIt is super cute that you make videos and send them to each other.
Looks like your cat did a number on you--ouch! My dog freaks out when fireworks go off, too, which unfortunately always seems to be around 1 or 2 AM when I'm sleeping...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you that being fit or strong is more important than being skinny. I really believe that when we as women focus on what their bodies can do instead of how we look in the mirror (i.e. objectifying ourselves), we can be a lot more comfortable in our own skin.
I completely agree with you on focusing on what we can do instead of how we look. When I was a teenager (actually probably even into my mid20s) I hated my big thighs. I had trouble fitting pants over them and felt embarrassed by their size. Now they are my favorite body part. I love my big, strong, marathon running legs... even if they don't fit into 50% of pants:)
DeleteLOVE This!!!! Love the video!!! I could never do that! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteConfession- I'm terrified of going to get haircuts! It's this big ordeal for me and usually, if it's just a trim needed, I'll do it myself!
I probably should never do that. Not making it on American Idol for sure
DeleteThank heavens you are good at giving yourself trims (I had to scope your picture to check it out), your hair looks really cute. If I tried to do my own I'd be a hot mess.
You just, made my day with your singing video! Love it! I must confess that I often sing to that song in the car...it is very catchy. I also love and agree with that fit comes in all shapes and sizes. This is something I have struggled with for a long time. I know I am never going to be really thin. I need to learn to love the body I have and work on becoming fit and healthy. It has been hard and still is a work in progress! You really have been an inspiration to me. I am learning to focus on what is really important...even if it isn't easy.
ReplyDeleteYou are off to an amazing start. I am so glad you started on this crazy running journey.
DeleteI love it! My confession? I wet my pants when I run - like down to my knees wet, and in one particular race I had hand washed my running tights before and hadn't gotten all the soap out, so my thighs and bum foamed up while I ran. I still set a personal best, but man that was embarrassing!
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine getting passed by someone while their butt was lathering up and foaming bubbles. HA
DeleteHaha that video made me smile. I have done karaoke in the past, but don't know if I ever would again. I do have a dog and fear I don't give her enough attention ) ; but I do the best I can and I'm not abusive and she loves me and seems happy.
ReplyDeleteI am sure she is very happy.
DeleteThis is quite possibly one of the best blog posts ever! Love the video!!! Sing it girl :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Danielle!
DeleteLOVE this Abby! My confessions - oh jeez - too many to tell. BUT I am pumped you shared your singing. I'd never have the guts to do that.
ReplyDeleteI was super scared to share my (horrible) singing, but I thought - Why not! I mean you all already know what I weight, what I eat, how I workout, even my TV crush (Alcide, True Blood tonight!), why not lay it all out there.
DeleteBest thing about car singing is that no one else can hear you... unless you post it on the internet!
ReplyDeleteWhoops, ruined that nobody can hear me thing.
DeleteMy goal was never to be skinny either.. but healthy too! I'm also trying to love myself no matter what even if I gain a pound or two!
ReplyDeleteLove your video haha. Very brave!
It can be hard sometimes with all these super skinny models society throws at us.
DeleteHowever, we will all keep working on it together - Fit & happy!
I LOVE this post and I must admit that your Call me maybe is ALMOST as amazing as mine! It actually made me love you more!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd my confession: my favorite food (no matter how much I deny it) is S'mores! I would eat them everyday ALL day if I could without getting horribly sick! It's a tiny bit embarrassing as I have a culinary degree but I love what I love ;)
Almost as amazing as yours is a complement for me:)
DeleteS'Mores Are fabulous. There is no way I, or anyone with a culinary degree, could fault you for that. So good the way the melty chocolate and gooey marshmallow meet the crunchy graham cracker - perfection. Now I am hungry!
Abby, that post is gorgeous! Your cat is a cutie.
ReplyDeleteMy confession is that I love to listen to really catchy music (One Direction...) but when I have to wind down my car window, I change the station.
Oh my gosh I do the same thing when I drive through a shopping center or somewhere with the windows down. Ha!
DeleteI agree, the word skinny isn't a good one. It certainly doesn't imply healthy! Someone can be skinny but not be in shape!
ReplyDeleteSo true. I have friends who are sticks, but never work out or exercise at all. That is not healthy!
